API Keys & Local

Connect your AI accounts. Keys live only in your browser — never on our servers.

What's an API key?
An API key is a private password that lets Ultra Prompt talk to ChatGPT, Claude, or other AI services on your behalf. You get one from the provider's website — it takes about 2 minutes. We never store it. It lives only here in your browser.

⚠ Claude requires one extra step. Due to browser security restrictions, Claude's API can't be called directly from a web page. You'll need to set up a small Cloudflare Worker as a proxy and paste the Worker URL into the field below the Claude key. A full walkthrough video is coming soon.

Ollama Online (API key)

Ollama Online — get an API key at ollama.com ↗ to use cloud-hosted models without running anything locally.

Local AI — runs on your machine, no API key needed
Ollama (base URL)
LM Studio (base URL)

Ollama setup

No API key required — the app auto-detects your installed models. CORS must be enabled so the app can reach it from the browser.

Windows: Open System Environment Variables → add OLLAMA_ORIGINS = *fully restart your PC (not just Ollama). A simple app restart is not enough.
Mac/Linux: Set OLLAMA_ORIGINS=* in your shell profile and restart Ollama.

LM Studio setup

No API key required. Start the local server in LM Studio (Local Server tab → Start Server) and load a model. CORS must be enabled: in LM Studio go to Server Settings → enable CORS. The default port is 1234 — leave the field blank unless you've changed it.

Cloudflare Worker (required for Claude)

Deploy a free Cloudflare Worker as a proxy so Claude API calls work from the browser. workers.cloudflare.com ↗

ⓘ Keys are stored in your browser’s localStorage. Once saved, open the app and use the AI buttons on any generated prompt.

🔒

Keep a backup of your API keys. If your browser data is ever cleared, your keys will be gone and you’ll need to re-enter them. Save them somewhere secure — a password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden, a private note, or a secure document on your device. Having them on hand makes it a 10-second fix if you ever need to re-add them.
